Eyeliner
Permanent eyeliner is a permanent makeup (PMU) treatment that involves using a specialised tattoo machine to implant pigment on the lash line to replicate the look of eyeliner. The treatment, also known as an eyeliner tattoo, can be applied in a variety of styles, including larger strong wings, light lash enhancements, or smokey looks in many colours.
The most commonly requested styles are:
- Lash enhancement – subtle definition through the lash line with a soft blend
- Winged liner – a wing or flick extends out above the crease of your lids on the outer corners
- Shaded liner – a soft, smokey line diffusing out from the lash line like smudged pencil
Who is it for?
Many people opt for a permanent eyeliner treatment because it adds definition to the lash line – which can be great for those who have lost their lashes or want a subtle enhancement. Alternatively, a bolder eyeliner look can save time for those with busy lifestyles and looks great for holidays – no more smudged eye makeup! The treatment is very popular with clients who may struggle to create symmetry in their makeup due to shaky hands or loss of vision.
How is it done?
Just like any other permanent makeup treatments, we use a special tattoo machine to implant the pigment into the top layers of the skin on your eyelids and lash line. We use primary and secondary numbing, basically during the whole treatment so it is not painful. The wetline of the eyes and the corners are never tattooed, and the eyes are closed for the majority of the treatment.
How many sessions do I need?
As eyeliner is the only PMU treatment that uses black pigment and the skin is the thinnest on our eyelids, the results rarely fade. We always schedule a touch-up appointment for 6 weeks after the initial treatment in case some adjustments needed but most of the time the pigment heals and stays nicely even after one session.
How long does it last?
Permanent eyeliner can last between 3-5 years. This can change depending on age, lifestyle, skin type, etc. As with all PMU, it is recommended that you have a colour boost time to time to keep your liner looking fresh.
